How to Connect to a LanChGo Secure Channel on Android

Quick fact: You can connect an Android device to a Windows computer, another Android phone, or any device running the LanChGo protocol. All peers must be on the same local network.
LanChGo Android Main Screen

Step 1 β€” Open the LanChGo Android App

Launch the app and ensure your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the other device you want to talk to. LanChGo uses local network broadcasts β€” no internet required.

Create or Join Secure Channel

Step 2 β€” Create or Join

Use Create to host a secure channel from your Android device, or Join to connect to a channel created on another device (Windows or mobile).

πŸ”Ή Tip: If you create a channel on Android, tap the lock icon πŸ”’ at the top to view your PIN for sharing.

Scan QR or Enter PIN

Step 3 β€” Scan QR Code or Enter PIN

On the device that created the channel (example: Windows), click Show PIN to reveal the 6-digit PIN and QR code. On your Android device, scan the QR code or type the PIN manually to join.

πŸ”Ή Note: The QR code generator feature is currently available only on the Windows version of LanChGo.

Connected Secure Channel

Step 4 β€” Connected

After a successful join the lock icon will indicate a secure channel. Messages between devices are encrypted with a shared key derived from the PIN and a salt β€” only channel members can decrypt them.

Send Secure Messages

Step 5 β€” Chat Securely

Send messages as usual. Try the word ping to test the connection β€” both devices will play a sound. The messages are encrypted and no one can read them.

Disconnect or Public Mode

Step 6 β€” Leave the Channel

Tap Disconnect to stop being part of the secure channel. The app will return to public mode β€” any messages you send then are broadcast in plain text to all devices on the network.
