How to Connect to a Secure Channel

A step-by-step walkthrough for setting up and joining an encrypted Secure Channel on the LanChGo Android app.

Quick fact: You can connect an Android device to a Windows computer, another Android phone, or any device running LanChGo. All devices must be on the same local network.
LanChGo Android Main Screen
Step 01
Open the LanChGo Android App

Launch the app and ensure your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the other device you want to talk to. LanChGo uses local network broadcasts โ€” no internet required.

Create or Join Secure Channel
Step 02
Create or Join

Use Create to host a secure channel from your Android device, or Join to connect to a channel created on another device (Windows or mobile).

๐Ÿ’ก If you create a channel on Android, tap the lock icon ๐Ÿ”’ at the top to view your PIN for sharing.
Scan QR or Enter PIN
Step 03
Scan QR Code or Enter PIN

On the device that created the channel (e.g. Windows), click Show PIN to reveal the 6-digit PIN and QR code. On your Android device, scan the QR code or type the PIN manually to join.

๐Ÿ’ก Note: The QR code generator is currently available only on the Windows version of LanChGo.

Step 04
Connected

After a successful join the lock icon will indicate a secure channel. Messages between devices are encrypted with a shared key derived from the PIN and a salt โ€” only channel members can decrypt them.

Send Secure Messages
Step 05
Chat Securely

Send messages as usual. Try the word ping to test the connection โ€” both devices will play a sound. Messages are fully encrypted and can only be read by channel members.

Disconnect or Public Mode
Step 06
Leave the Channel

Tap Disconnect to stop being part of the secure channel. The app will return to public mode โ€” any messages you send then are broadcast in plain text to all devices on the network.
